The Influence Project The Influence Project is collaboration between photographer, Andrew McGibbon and Mediator, Sheena Jonker. Influence is really a journey into what Influence is. On the journey, we are profiling 150 South Africans. Some high profile, some with no public profile such as Gogo’s that look after orphans. It is an opportunity to tell stories and honour all kinds of people on the same platform. What is influence? How is influence? Where is influence? Do we decide to be influential? Or is our path laid out before us like a Shakespearian protagonist? Can we distil influence into a dictionary definition, or is there a greater mystery at play? Turn to Douglas Adam’s The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy. An ancient race of super beings constructs a supercomputer with one task in mind: Find the answer to the ultimate question. And, after 7 million years the task is complete. The answer to the ultimate question is 42. 42. 42 what? Exactly. See, the ultimate answer only makes sense when we understand the ultimate question. Asking the right question is as important as arriving at the right answer. In this journey to discover influence we are not only seeking for the right answer, but for the right questions. Who is influential? Why? Do they deserve it? Are the influencers heroes or villains? Do we receive only the voice that shouts loudest, or are we moved by the gentle whisper? The influencers are all around us. From the President of our great nation to the gogo who lovingly cares for orphans. Idols stars. Sportsman. School teachers. Do they realize the influence they have? Would they act differently if they did? Herein lies our attempt to find the ultimate question to the ultimate answer. We honour the influencers. Regardless of name or station we acknowledge them. They are world changers. Enjoy this journey. Take it in. You will find a truth in this whole that you would never find in part. We all carry a weight, a reach, an impact. We move through the world and it is changed because of us. We are influence.
